More specifically, Darktide makes you give a name to each character you create, as well as customising their appearance, and selecting their background, home planet, and ‘Defining Moment,’ all of which shape the kind of dialogue they’ll spout throughout the game. True to its predecessor Vermintide 2, FatShark’s ultra-aggressive co-op shooter-slasher is all about forward momentum, bodily dismemberment, and relentlessly (but enjoyably) paced action, so to see a game like this opt to do a little more than just throw us in there with our obnoxious alphanumerical gamer IDs is a pleasant surprise.
Of all the games that I’d expect to impose some kind of rules about how you name your character, or even give you the option to name your characters at all, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide wasn’t one of them.
